My husband and I gave an anti-witness talk at the presby church a few months ago. They were all very friendly the minister asked us if he could pray for our "ministry". If I wasn't so happy with my church I would join them. They all seemed very interested and asked lots of questions after the presentation. Go for it Renee, if you are comfortable there and you are learning just go for it.

How I handled Child Abuse cases when I was an Elder (1996-2006)
by slmdf inhey ya'll.
i know there is a lot of buzz due to the nbc story.
i thought i'd share my experience as an elder dealing with abuse.. i attended 23 different congregations in my life and served as an elder or ms in 9 of them.

Thank you for posting this. Very brave of you. I'm happy you're out, welcome to the freedom to think for yourself.
I think this thread may open a can of worms. Brace yourself for some harsh treatment.
I understand you did the best you could while still in. You played by the rules and thought you were keeping Jah's org clean. Before everyone here starts pointing fingers and judging. Remember we were all there at one time and did many things that we would never do now.

Yet ANOTHER thread on ...Atheist/Theists... :-O :-O
by Kudra ini know that the atheists are pissed that the theists are always trying to convert them/condemn them to hell and the theists are tired of the atheists always trying to knock down their beliefs.... .
where the heck are you hanging out that theist/atheists are always haranguing you and trying to convert/deconvert you???
am i just missing the roving hoards of these two groups that are searching for the unsuspecting pedestrian or coffeeshop patron and then whammo -they try to convert them???

I don't want anyone here to have to be too PC. I would rather people be free to say what they are thinking/feeling,
Thank you for that. I just don't understand why if a thread is an obvious theist/atheist one people with opposing views still go and put their comments there.
Let me explain with an example. I recently posted about my baptism. 99.9% of the people that replied, theist and athiest, were supportive. There always has to be that one that will have a negative comment. I was shareing this because it's important to me. This poster didn't like it why not just leave the thread and go read something else? Did he/she think that by saying he doesn't "get it" that I would suddenly change my mind about my faith?
I will never force anyone to listen to my religious views (did that enough as a Jw) why am I been forced to listen to others non-religious views. I have enough respect for atheists to recognise that they have the RIGHT not to believe in the bible just as much as I have the right to believe.
If other peoples faith bothers you then don't go read threads that are obviously about their faith. That goes for Christians too why go and post your views on a thread that is obviously atheist.
I'm NOT saying that you shouldn't do it. I'm asking why do you do it? Help me understand.

by oompa ini have to get feeing better soon.
i don't mind some ups and downs, but staying low for days at a time just ain't right.
somebody here was talking about snow the other day and how the elders would almost never cancel the meeting.

Elder Pedophiles that you personally know of . . .
by JK666 inafter the ambiguous response by the wts to the nbc broadcast, i would like to know how many of you had an "elder chester molester" in your own congregation?.
we had an elder that molested his daughter's best friend when she was 14 years old.
the elders in the congregation tried to keep the matter quiet and handled the matter privately.

There was one sick F*&^ in our congo that molested his two young daughters. He's still an elder. His wife and kids are no longer JW's.

"it just looks good on paper"
by Gilberto inthe "where's your jacket brother" thread reminded me of an incident.. i was conducting 4 bible studies two on a monday evening, one wednesday evening and one on a sunday morning.
i was working full time.. so the only first call i did was on an saturday morning for an hour (the cats ministry.
on a "shepherding call" (don't you just hate that) the elder told me i should be going out with the group on a sunday morning and do rvs on a saturday.
